The Peter Sheppard Collection

Peter Sheppard retired after a 43 year career at Tilmanstone Colliery. Peter followed his father into the mine aged 15 as an apprentice fitter. He worked his way through the ranks becoming a boiler fitter, underground fitter, Deputy Mechanical Engineer and finally Colliery Mechanical Engineer.

Born in Yorkshire he moved to Kent in 1930 when his father came to work at Tilmanstone Colliery. He lived most of his life in Elvington.
